There&#8217;s not software for that<\/li>\n<li>Even software like Slack doesn&#8217;t achieve this, needs people-to-people communication. Needs change, software doesn&#8217;t keep up.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Time estimates are horrible to figure out in IT\n<ul>\n<li>Need buffer time,<\/li>\n<li>SysAdmin will have a good idea of time needed to perform tasks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><span id=\"Software\" class=\"mw-headline\">Software<\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Manual techniques like sticky notes and whiteboards\n<ul>\n<li>Gets transferred to software<\/li>\n<li>Requires stakeholders in a meeting, maybe video conference, not asynchronous tools like e-mail\n<ul>\n<li>But getting contributions in a live meeting may be tough. After the meeting people finally got involved by sending e-mail<\/li>\n<li>Keeping the tone collegial is everyone&#8217;s task, but bridge-building is definitely a skill for PMs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Concurrence: Multiple people may need to access (Read\/Write) the project data\n<ul>\n<li>Is concurrence necessarily the best data management practice?\n<ul>\n<li>We had vigorous discussion on the merits of document concurrency\n<ul>\n<li>Good for managing sub-tasks, not good for overall project coherence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Lose focus of the project with too many simultaneous changes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Software licencing can be onerous &#8212; cost of software, seat licenses, and audits<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6><span id=\"Specific_apps\" class=\"mw-headline\">Specific apps<\/span><\/h6>\n<ul>\n<li>Symantec Timeline circa 1998.<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft Project<\/li>\n<li><a class=\"external text\" href=\"http:\/\/www.projectlibre.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Project Libre<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>Open Source has XML data format, anyone can read the data without having the software<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Cloud-based project management, eg.
