Do you have a brand? How do you choose a brand? Is branding important for NonProfit organizations? What is the value of a good brand? What is the cost of a bad brand? Have you ever changed your branding? How much work was it for the SysAdmins? Did you have re-do the Web site? The e-mail addresses? Business cards? Letterhead? What legal considerations are there for choosing a brand?<\/p>\n<p>Bob and Marc have the questions, together all of us have the answers.<br \/>\n=======<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"selflink\">Meeting Notes for Branding (2017-02-13)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This meeting ended up being more about our own re-branding needs, and the business of running KWNPSA as a non-profit organization. We&#8217;ll have another session in the future on <b>Branding<\/b> to discuss the experience and gather the advice of other organizations.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We started with a discussion on the different syntaxes used in markup languages, eg. Markdown, Mediawiki, PMWiki, MoinMoin&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span id=\"Hosting_Services\" class=\"mw-headline\">Hosting Services<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Many Non-Profit organizations are migrating from CCj\/Clearline (Steph Smith, Cedric Puddy) to IndieServe (Mark Steffen)<\/li>\n<li>Marc Par\u00e9 will take over the hosting for KWNPSA\n<ul>\n<li>Marc is currently using 123EHost.com<\/li>\n<li>This is for the interim, until Marc has his own server set up<\/li>\n<li>The hosting OS will be Mageia<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Mailing Lists\n<ul>\n<li>Steve Izma will be the Mailing List Manager<\/li>\n<li>We currently have our <a class=\"external text\" href=\"http:\/\/thinkers.org\/mailman\/listinfo\/npsa_thinkers.org\" rel=\"nofollow\">Discussion<\/a> and <a class=\"external text\" href=\"http:\/\/thinkers.org\/mailman\/listinfo\/npsa-ann_thinkers.org\" rel=\"nofollow\">Announcements<\/a> mailing lists on CCj\/Clearline<\/li>\n<li>Steve will look after the mailing list migrations as soon as Marc has Mailman set up<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Wiki\n<ul>\n<li>Mediawiki is being used by everyone at this meeting,<\/li>\n<li>Currently being hosted at <a class=\"external free\" href=\"http:\/\/sobac.com\/kwnpsa\" rel=\"nofollow\">http:\/\/sobac.com\/kwnpsa<\/a> by Bob Jonkman<\/li>\n<li>Will be migrated after Marc has set up the Mageia server<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span id=\"Sponsorships\" class=\"mw-headline\">Sponsorships<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>CIRA &#8211; Has provided $100 for the previous and this meeting.<\/li>\n<li>TechSoup &#8211; provides low-cost Microsoft licenses to Non-Profit organizations\n<ul>\n<li>NetSquared (part of TechSoup) is an umbrella group for Non-Profit organizations&#8217; IT staff\n<ul>\n<li>If we get a venue without A\/V facilities, can NetSquared sponsorship provide, say, a projector? Marc to ask Eli&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft\n<ul>\n<li>We will gladly accept Microsoft sponsorhip and host an evening dedicated to Microsoft products\n<ul>\n<li>Perhaps have as a guest speaker a product specialist from Microsoft?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>We will continue to focus on Free Software \/ Open Source solutions at other meetings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Google\n<ul>\n<li>Apparently Google is a sponsor or a member of NetSquared\n<ul>\n<li>but we have not seen support from our local Google office, eg. request for a venue<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span id=\"Formalizing_the_KWNPSA_group\" class=\"mw-headline\">Formalizing the KWNPSA group<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>The formal structure of the group will consist only of a Treasurer\n<ul>\n<li>Marc Par\u00e9 will be Treasurer, will take care of any finances received from sponsors, donations, &amp;c.<\/li>\n<li>Funds received from sponsorships &amp;c. will be used for venues, hosting costs, domain name costs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Bob Jonkman will ask Eli van Giessen to re-brand the <a class=\"external text\" href=\"http:\/\/www.meetup.com\/NetSquared-Kitchener-Waterloo\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">meetup.com group<\/a> as <b>KWNPSA &#8211; Kitchener Waterloo Non-Profit System Administrators &#8212; a NetSquared Group<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span id=\"Marketing_KWNPSA\" class=\"mw-headline\">Marketing KWNPSA<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Business cards?\n<ul>\n<li>We need someone to design a KWNPSA logo\n<ul>\n<li>The <i>KW<\/i> part is important to our geographic locale; highlight or separate KW from NPSA<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Marc Par\u00e9 has found with other organizations that business cards are just as effective as posters<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Let more people know that KWNPSA exists\n<ul>\n<li>Marc has a list of local KW Non-Profit organizations <a class=\"external text\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canadahelps.org\/en\/search\/app\/?medium=TSA&amp;models=charity.charityprofile&amp;q=Waterloo&amp;gclid=CjwKEAjwkq7GBRDun9iu2JjyhmsSJADHCD_Hp06S32fZF1kA_tKMjaZlcHtSe_D4S_SP8LJUJlrN2RoCeS3w_wcB\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">List<\/a> he has contacted about 100<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span id=\"Meeting_format\" class=\"mw-headline\">Meeting format<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>KWNPSA has a collegial Round Table Discussion format, which suits Non-Profit organizations\n<ul>\n<li>Contrast this with formal presentations at <a class=\"external text\" href=\"http:\/\/kwlug.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">KWLUG<\/a><\/li>\n<li>or the social restaurant meetings of <a class=\"external text\" href=\"http:\/\/kwvoip.ca\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">KWVoIP<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span id=\"Mailing_Lists\" class=\"mw-headline\">Mailing Lists<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>How do we deal with badly configured MUAs (Mail clients) that try to reply to the Announcements list?<\/li>\n<li>Do we need two separate lists?\n<ul>\n<li>Steve Izma will investigate the use of &#8220;child lists&#8221; in Mailman<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Child lists&#8221; will allow &#8220;Discussion&#8221; to receive &#8220;Announcements&#8221; so people only have to subscribe to one list<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>DMARC problems\n<ul>\n<li>Steve will activate &#8220;munging&#8221; on Mailman so badly configured mail hosts like Yahoo Mail will accept messages<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>We will have KWNPSA branded e-mail addresses\n<ul>\n<li>To be seen if this helps or hinders the DMARC problem<\/li>\n<li>Lends authority to Announcements;
